Our 2016 Showhouse designer engagement co-chair, Hillary Littlejohn Scurtis, is a longtime supporter of both Junior League of Miami and The Kampong.
“I am excited to share my passion for the positive work that both entities work diligently towards. The Junior League Inn Transition is a program that supports battered women and their children to begin independent and healthy lives. The Kampong is part of The National Tropical Botanical Gardens and has many brilliant plant initiatives and one of the most far reaching ones is to end world hunger by planting the breadfruit. I am an interior designer by profession. This event synergistically combines my passion for design and my conviction for philanthropy. “
As a Parsons-trained interior designer, Hillary is inspired by nature, books, films, art, and by the world around her. In her eyes, our routines often blind us to the beauty in the ordinary. Her advice is to pause and acknowledge how much can be inspired by the human experience.
The 2016 Junior League of Showhouse runs April 7-24 during which Hillary’s studio, HLS Design, will collaborate with Monica James on the living room and with vendors such as Sub-Zero on the kitchen in David Fairchild’s main house. HLS Design typically utilities wallpaper and fantastic lighting so those elements are likely to be included. Certainly the character of Coconut Grove, the vibe of Miami and the predominant color palette of green will influence the final installation.
